PART 2 The Promise Made Beside a Hospital Bed

Eight years earlier…

Emily’s father, Daniel Carter, had been dying from pancreatic cancer.

The hospital room smelled of antiseptic and fading flowers.

Standing beside his bed was his oldest friend.

Logan “Stone” Walker.

The same tattooed biker now standing outside the bridal boutique.

Daniel had trusted Logan with one final promise.

“If my little girl ever says yes because she’s afraid to say no…”

“…go get her.”

Logan thought it was simply the fear every father carries before giving away his daughter.

He never imagined Emily would remember those exact words.

Or send that message fifteen years later.

Officer Sarah Collins turned toward Emily.

“Miss Carter…”

“Are you leaving because someone forced you?”

Emily couldn’t answer immediately.

Instead, she removed her engagement ring.

Her hands shook.

“I kept telling everyone I was nervous.”

She swallowed hard.

“But I wasn’t nervous about getting married.”

“I was terrified of disappointing everyone.”

Her mother began crying.

The groom shouted through the phone that Logan had manipulated her.

Emily slowly shook her head.

“No one manipulated me.”

“I asked him to come.”

She opened her phone again.

For months she had written messages she never sent.

Photos of bruises hidden beneath long sleeves.

Screenshots of controlling text messages.

Lists titled:

Things I’m Not Allowed To Do.

Officer Collins silently read each one.

When she looked back at Emily…

She no longer saw a runaway bride.

She saw a frightened woman asking permission to save herself.

Then Logan quietly reached into his leather vest.

He removed a faded envelope.

Across the front, in Daniel’s handwriting, were six words.

For Emily… On Her Wedding Day.
