PART 2 — THE TEDDY BEAR

The stranger stopped when he saw Caleb.

Neither man spoke.

Frank quietly stood behind Caleb.

Sophie immediately moved closer to the biker.

Caleb lowered his voice.

“Is that him?”

Sophie nodded.

“He found Mom yesterday.”

Caleb’s jaw tightened.

The stranger smiled as if nothing was wrong.

“I’m looking for a little girl.”

Caleb stepped between him and Sophie.

“You’re in the wrong place.”

The stranger’s smile disappeared.

“I don’t think I am.”

Caleb didn’t move.

The man glanced toward the seven bikers.

“This doesn’t concern you.”

Caleb looked at Sophie.

“It does now.”

The stranger turned and walked out.

Frank moved toward the window.

“He’s not alone.”

Two vehicles were parked across the street.

Caleb looked down at Sophie’s teddy bear.

“Your mother gave you this?”

Sophie nodded.

“She said never to let anyone take it.”

Caleb gently examined the bear.

Something felt wrong.

The stitching along its back was newer than the rest.

He looked at Sophie.

“Can I see it?”

She hesitated.

Then she handed it over.

Caleb opened the damaged seam carefully.

A small plastic memory card fell into his palm.

Frank whispered, “No way.”

Caleb stared at it.

“What’s on that?”

Sophie shook her head.

“Mom said it had proof.”

“Proof of what?”

“Why Daddy didn’t leave us.”

Caleb’s face hardened.

For eleven years, everyone had believed Daniel abandoned his family.

But Caleb remembered the night Daniel disappeared.

He had received one final message.

Don’t trust anyone wearing our mark.

Caleb had assumed it was a warning about another biker.

Now he understood.

The message had been about someone inside the club.

Frank looked at the memory card.

“Caleb, we need to get her somewhere safe.”

Sophie suddenly grabbed Caleb’s sleeve.

“No.”

“Why?”

“Mom said if I found you, I had to give you something else.”

She reached inside the teddy bear and pulled out a folded photograph.

Caleb opened it.

His face went pale.

The photograph showed Daniel standing beside Hannah.

But behind them stood another man.

A man Caleb knew better than anyone.

Frank.

Caleb slowly looked up.

Frank had already reached for his phone.
