Another night, another “Wheel of Fortune” heartbreak — and this one left viewers across the country shaking their heads.

A Texas balloon artist came painfully close to a massive Bonus Round payday, only to watch $64,000 disappear after being stumped by a puzzle many fans say never stood a fair chance.

The dramatic moment unfolded during a January 12 episode of the longtime game show, where Mandy Jeter of Shallowater, Texas, squared off against DJ Hamilton from Tampa, Florida, and Margaret Moody of Robersonville, North Carolina.

Jeter, who turned balloon-making into a full-time business designing decorations for parties, graduations and even car dealerships, delivered a steady and determined performance throughout the night.

Early on, Hamilton jumped ahead by solving both Toss-Up puzzles, quickly banking $3,000. After a brief misstep from another player, he regained control and correctly completed the lyric-style puzzle, “I Want to Get Away, I Want to Fly Away,” boosting his total to $6,500.

Jeter found her rhythm midway through the game.

She broke onto the scoreboard by solving a clever “Before and After” puzzle — “Founding Father Figure” — earning $2,600 and shifting the momentum.

Her biggest moment came shortly afterward during the Prize Puzzle round. Jeter successfully solved “An Emerald Wonderland,” winning a vacation to Costa Rica and pushing her total to more than $16,000.

The competition tightened during the Triple Toss-Up segment. Jeter grabbed two of the three puzzles, adding $4,000 to her earnings, while Hamilton claimed the remaining one.

In the final round, Jeter struck again by solving “The Moral of the Story,” sealing her spot in the Bonus Round with a final total of $24,048. Hamilton finished with $8,500, while Moody — who struggled to gain traction all game — received the customary $1,000 consolation prize.

Then came the moment everything hinged on.

For the Bonus Round, Jeter selected the category “Food & Drink” and brought her sister, Marie, along with her best friend, Kimberly, to cheer her on.

Their initial reaction drew playful teasing from host Ryan Seacrest, who joked that he wasn’t sure the excitement level was quite there yet — prompting laughter from the audience.

Once the standard letters R, S, T, L, N and E appeared on the board, Jeter added C, D, H and A.

With the clock ticking down, Jeter quickly identified the first word as “Baked.” But despite knowing she was close, the final word never came together in time.

When the buzzer sounded, the correct answer was revealed: “Baked Ziti.”

Inside the envelope sat a devastating $40,000 — meaning Jeter narrowly missed out on a total Bonus Round prize of $64,048.

The reaction online was swift — and fiery.

After the clip was posted to the show’s official YouTube channel, viewers flooded the comments with disbelief, many claiming the puzzle relied on a food term they’d never even heard before.

Several fans admitted they couldn’t have solved it even with extra letters, while others said the answer felt unfairly regional or obscure.

Some questioned how a pasta dish unfamiliar to large portions of the audience could appear in a pressure-filled Bonus Round with only ten seconds on the clock.
