No one spoke.

Bear held the weathered wallet as though it might disappear if he loosened his grip.

“I buried him,” one of the older riders whispered.

“I carried his casket.”

“So did I.”

Emily looked from one face to another.

“He said you’d say that.”

Bear slowly unfolded the letter.

The paper was stained with oil and folded so many times the creases were nearly worn through.

The first paragraph wasn’t addressed to the club.

It was addressed to Emily.

Emily… if these men are standing in front of you, it means they finally came back to keep riding together. They’re my family. Trust them the way you trusted me.

Bear swallowed hard.

“What happened?” he asked softly.

Emily glanced toward the hills beyond the cemetery.

“My mom and I got lost during the wildfire.”

The riders exchanged uneasy looks.

Everyone remembered the fire six years earlier.

Raven had disappeared while helping evacuate families trapped beyond Black Elk Ridge.

Search teams found his burned motorcycle at the edge of a collapsed bridge.

His helmet.

His leather vest.

Even his dog tags.

But never his body.

The county declared him dead.

Emily continued.

“My mommy fell into the river.”

“Mr. Raven jumped after her.”

“He pushed me onto the rocks.”

“And then… he floated away.”

“You saw him?” Bear asked.

She nodded.

“He wasn’t dead.”

“He smiled.”

“He told me to count to one hundred before finding help.”

The cemetery fell silent.

Bear looked at the other riders.

“If she saw him alive…”

“…who buried our brother?”

No one had an answer.

Emily reached back into her backpack.

“There was something else.”

She pulled out a small brass key tied to faded blue string.

“He told me to give this only to Mr. Bear.”

Bear stared at it.

His hands began shaking.

It wasn’t just any key.

It opened an old storage locker outside Helena.

Only three people had ever known it existed.

Bear.

Raven.

And one other brother who had died years before.

No one else.

Not even the club.

Inside that locker…
